Back Field Improvements

The Glover PTO, in partnership with local businesses, Principal McDavitt and the Superintendent, have secured approximately $55,000 in funds to improve the field behind Glover School. Over the years, this invaluable space has become considerably compacted and is frequently waterlogged. You, yourself, may have observed the large puddles that seem to linger for days.  With an improved lawn, children and neighbors will be able to enjoy the space for multipurpose use.

Much work has been done to reach this point and you have been able to see work done around the school. However, the piece involving work on the field itself is complicated by our proximity to Turner’s Pond. The project may require approval by the Milton Conservation Commission, which we are working on, after which time, we can move forward.

What we're still working on
  • Regrade, till, and sod; plant additional shade trees around the playground and yard. A. Thomas & Sons has generously worked with us on planning this pursuit.

  • Funding for this is outside the scope of the CPC.

What we have accomplished so far
  • In the Fall of 2023, we recognized that there were very few trees shading both the Glover Elementary School and its public recreation spaces. Using funds from the Glover PTO and the Glover Fifth Grade Committee, we planted nine three-inch and six-inch caliper shade trees costing a total of $13,000 to mitigate the impacts of heat and to improve the community’s enjoyment of the space

  • On July 25, 2025, the PTO signed the agreement to use funds as approved by the Town and the Community Preservation Committee.

  • Soccer nets were purchased for the school using funds from the PTO. This was outside the scope of this project, but you may have seen these on the field.
